With the autocross season approaching fast my dad and I are looking for a new set of tires. I’ve heard from a lot of people that these are the tires to have nowadays but that their treadlife is pretty poor. For us we’d only be using them to get us to and from events in addition to the events themselves. With that said would we be able to confidently expect to get 30-40 events out of them (really 15-20 events but with two drivers)

From what I have heard, these are as good as people say. But yeah treadlife is the reason why I have not decided to put these or any 200 TW tire on my car. I simply drive too much in the summer time to justify these. If the car is primarily used for auto-x though, definitely get these. I have personally asked like 10 different auto-xers at events and they all spoke highly of the tires. And said that they should last at least as long as you are talking.

I do not autocross.
The wear was accelerated in comparison to the RE-11s I have used.
In my research prior to purchasing, the autocross folks who bought them were posting extremely good times without any substantial falloff towards the tires end of life.
All third party anecdotes though. Wish I knew more.

Yea, I’ve heard people say these are closer to a true R comp than they are to the Re11s which is insane and we put maybe 1000 miles on the car each year with about 10 events (20 really with two drivers) Plus we just got new wheels so we could feasibly use them with these tires for autocrossing alone. We’ve been on the same set of Hankook Rs3s for two seasons now and they dont have too much life left in them, maybe half a seson so we’re ideally shooting for a new set of tires every other year.

No apparent falloff towards the end of the tires life is a good thing to hear, we’re on Hankook Rs3s now and you can definitely tell that they arent as good as they used to be.

If they’re at all related to the old RE-71 street tire, then I’d expect them to wear quickly. I got 6,000 miles out of a set of RE71's one summer. They had a 140 wear rating back then (1999-2000).

Same general idea but no real relation, just bringing back the name. But we put at most 1 to 2 thousand miles on the car per year, its just about how many autocross events they’ll hold up for really.

RE-71Rs are the absolute hottest shit for autocross right now. Our local region has a C5 Z06, ‘15 WRX, and two S550-chassis Mustang GTs running on them...and they’re untouchable.
Positives:
Grip, grip, grip. All the time throughout its tread life.
They do pretty darn alright in the rain as well.
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH GRIP?!
Get them when Bridgestone does their rebate deal to save some dough.
Negatives:
It dies really quickly, especially if you abuse them.

For only 3 bucks a corner more than our current Hankook RS3s if we can get 30-40 events out of them that would be phenomenal. Plus we picked up a set of new wheels so we could feasibly use them strictly for autocross and no street driving whatsoever.

If you got a trailer and a second set of wheels so that your RE-71Rs never see street life, then hell yes, buy those grippy-as-fuck tires!

No trailer, but hatchback! Plus we usually take 2 cars to every event.

Did you pick a set yet? My MINI is in desperate need of something grippy for the street.

Picked up a set of the Re71R but they wont get on the car until autocross season comes around in late April/early May. If you’re gonna be DDing the MINI I would stay away from the Re71R as they wont last very long but something like the Re760 would probably be better.
